What do I need to check if documents aren't printing?

The first component in the print process is the printer driver you selected when you created your virtual printer. Most are OK but there are a few that have non standard behaviour. If you are finding print jobs never leave the virtual printer or are slow at leaving the virtual printer then there are a couple of settings you can change. Open the printers folder, right click on the printer and select "Printer Properties", go to the ports tab and turn off the setting "Enable bidirectional support". Next go to the advanced tab and turn off "Enable advanced printing features".

The second stage in the print process is the print job is passed onto the Print Distributor service. This is done by writing two files, one into the raw folder and one into the queue folder. You can find these folders from the Tools->Open Config Folder menu in Print Distributor. If these folders aren't being emptied then it probably means the Print Distributor service isn't running. You can start it from the services applet, use Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services.

The third stage is the Print Distributor service will process the print file, what happens here is dependent on how you have configured Print Distributor. If any errors occur in the processing then they will be written in the pdlog.txt file in your config folder.

Finally when you reprint a document it is written out on the Windows print queue which you can check from the printers folder in Windows.
